Scientists have been doing some experiments involving sewer gas and mice. Mice are generally a given, but the sewer gas is interesting. A useful application of this is to protect workers who are exposed to the gas. I am wondering now if there are a lot of instances of sewer cleaners passing out? Seems probable. Less likely is that a sewer worker, missing for the last 10 years, is in suspended animation tucked behind some gunky debris.
“Low doses of the toxic gas responsible for the unpleasant odor of rotten eggs can safely and reversibly depress both metabolism and aspects of cardiovascular function in mice, producing a suspended-animation-like state.”
