Canadian founders of the Church of the Universe, Brother Michael Baldasaro and Brother Walter Tucker, have been marijuana legalization activists for several decades and have many high profile battles with the courts over man’s inalienable right to smoke up and get toasty. Unfortunately as anyone who follows legalization politics in Canada knows all too well, such efforts so far have been more or less inneffective – legally and politically if not culturally at least.  

However, all that may be set to change next year. The longtime local rabble-rousers are set to appeal their marijuana trafficking convictions with the Ontario Court of Appeal on April 20, 2009. In cannabis culture the term 420 signifies to those in the know that “it’s time to smoke pot”, and as expected, Brothers Baldasero and Tucker have welcomed this symbolic coincidence as a sign from the Universe that their time to shine is finally due. Good luck boys!
